Hello!

I’m Shiya, an artist who is passionate about pottery, printmaking and illustrations. I’m based in Edinburgh, originally from China. I love cats,  pineapple and poetry.

As a ceramicist, I believe ceramic is an art which was born from nature and it also reflects the beauty of nature. It simply is such a satisfying process to create pieces which takes time and will hold time and memory. I hand build and hand paint/brush glaze every piece, in the wish that every piece I create has its individual character and is a one-of-a-kind treasure. As an Asian living in Scotland, my pieces are Influenced by both of the art forms and cultures.

As a printmaker, I always found the whole printmaking process to be immersive and therapeutic. I particularly enjoy creating small-size pieces with exquisite lines inspired by nature, people or a poem. Let these curving lines flow with my mind & my hand for hours and then present them on paper-I particularly like rice paper- It’s an experiment full of surprises and it will easily cost a whole afternoon and a sore wrist. However, it’s totally worth the effort. Unfortunately, my eyesight is not on its best condition so I only do a limited number of new prints each month for now.
